About the company

West Coast Yachting Ltd. has been started by myself, Ruaridh MacCallum, to provide a mobile and highly personalised service to yacht owners who base their boats in, or sail through Argyll and the central West Coast of Scotland. New for the 2009 season, I'm aware that I'm entering a mature and competitive market in the local area, in somewhat depressed economic times. However I'm confident that I can provide a service that yacht owners will value by applying a broad range of knowledge and experience along with top-quality workmanship. Rather than competing head-on with the boatyards I hope to fill that niche in between what the yards do best and what you might do yourself: i.e. jobs on the mooring, when you can't get to your boat, or when something breaks and it's 6pm on a Sunday evening! See the services page for a full list of what I can provide.

Currently I am unashamedly a one-man-band so please bear with me when trying to contact me: there is minimal mobile reception in many of the areas I work! I will ALWAYS respond to messages and emails.

A rough CV: coming from an innately practical & mechanical (farming) background, I worked at Crinan Boatyard for a number of years soon after leaving school - as a mechanic somewhat specialising in outboard engines but learning all aspects of the trade. A desire to learn to sail "properly" and also to see a bit of the world eventually took me abroad where I spent the next 5 or 6 years working in the bareboat charter industry in Greece, the Caribbean, Bahamas and USA. Returning to the UK in 1996 I spent a few years in Aberdeen working offshore on subsea equipment, before taking a bit of time out on a new direction to study for my Computer Science degree at the Robert Gordon University. Following on from that I've spent the last few years working in IT (for my sins) before finally moving back to Argyll in January 2009.
